My Wedding: My Venue

Choosing the right venue for you and your other half is the most important thing that you can do. If you're not 100% happy, or in love with your venue, you're going to stressing so much before the day even arrives, let alone on the day itself.

I am so in love with my venue. Personally, I never really got over the childhood dream of getting married in a big castle in the country, with beautiful gardens and the sun shining. A castle wasn't really viable, but I'd stumbled across this gorgeous hall before I was even engaged, and instantly fell in love with it. It has the most beautiful gardens, set on a lake, and in the country with no one else around. I am quite a private person, and with the serenity and eloquence of Oxnead Hall, this meant that I had to get married here. So when I got engaged, a wedding show was being held there; I took my mum and she fell in love with it too - and Josh the next time. The grounds are gardens are absolutely beautiful, and I'm already so excited for our wedding photos around the grounds.

What makes it even more perfect for Josh and I, is the fact that we can hire the whole hall (not just  the function rooms), including 9 bedrooms a kitchen, dining and living space in the main house, and two 3-bedroom cottages. Mine and Josh's closest family will all spend the evening together the night before our wedding, and celebrate with a big family meal in the main house. Because after all, getting married is about becoming family. We are also staying the night of the wedding.

For the wedding itself,  we were torn between the on-site church, and this gorgeous room called the 'Orangery', which has windows all around, tonnes of natural light, stone floors, and overlooks the beautiful grounds. With our numbers for the ceremony itself (around 40), the church would look empty, so we've chosen the more intimate option of the Orangery.

For our wedding breakfast, we were torn between the Great Barn, and another room similar to the Orangery, named the Long Room. Also because of Breakfast numbers, we opted to fill the Long Room with long tables, rather than rounded, for a more intimate feel, and then have our evening party in the Great Barn, when the party will nearly triple in size. We have exclusive use of the whole site and grounds from Friday-Sunday, and I can't think of a more perfect place to get married.
