Inspiration: A Rustic Wedding

Picking a theme for your wedding that you're going to stick through in every aspect of your day is never going to be easy. When picking your theme, you'll need something that has the ability to filter through your whole day; from your flowers, to the wedding favours and the cake, the way you decorate the tables and the room, a consistent theme is something that will tie the whole day together.

It has taken us quite some time, and really considering options and items that we love to decide on a theme: a rustic wedding in the country. As you probably know from my venue post, I'm getting married in a hall in the country, with an abundance of gardens and rooms to work with, so I think the theme is something that'll really work. Today I'm sharing with you some of the images I'm taking inspiration from to incorporate into mine and Josh's wedding.

Flowers are one of the most important things for my rustic theme - Gypsophelias in particular. I'm a massive lover of everything white, and I love the way that their white heads contrast with the green stems to create a real rustic vibe. I hope to have them contrasted with pale pink roses of peonies in my bouquet and along the tables, with just a simple bunch of the gypsophelias themselves for the bridesmaids.

It is surprising how much a cake can make or break a theme really. For me, I absolutely love the gold cake toppers that say 'Mr & Mrs' or 'Just Married' and so on, but they would just not fit the theme, so this is something that I've had to get over. For our theme, we are loving the 'Naked' cake, which can be topped with flowers, plant parts, etc. I just think they're so gorgeous - especially if you're trying to get away from the traditional fruit/wedding cake thing.

Because we're having a slightly more intimate wedding breakfast, we're thinking that we are going to go with long tables, rather than round tables. I think these type of tables fit in perfectly with a rustic theme too, because rather than having a showy centrepiece, you can have smaller, and more subtle pieces along the table. I also love the idea of a brown string tying the place setting together with a sprig of leaves, perhaps Rosemary.

Lastly, I love the chalk boards covered in flowers with the wedding details. It's perfect for guests having their photo taken with, and definitely very fitting with the theme. If you want the full effect of the theme, why not add cute glass jars for your reception drinks, and definitely match your stationary!

Lots of love,

Kelly
