Choosing Your Photographer

Aside from your venue, registrar and date, the next thing is to definitely meet and decide on your wedding photographer. If you're going to all this effort planning your wedding, you definitely need someone who you trust to capture it properly! So for me, my photographer is one of the most important parts of my wedding planning, because I don't want poor quality images to ruin my memory of my day.

Yes, I booked my photographer 19 months before my wedding (you often come across checklists for weddings that allows a much shorter time to find photographers) - but seriously, they do get booked up that far in advance, so make sure you start looking for your photographer as soon as you've picked your venue.  

I spent a long, long time researching photographers - looking at all their images, including ones on their blog, as well as the wedding albums on their websites. I also check out their social media pages to try and get a feel for them. Josh and I are quite awkward in front of the camera, so it was really important for us to find the right person, who doesn't do awkward posed photos etc., and even more importantly, someone that we got on with. The key is to find a photographer that you trust, and you get on well with; someone who doesn't make you feel uncomfortable.

Our chosen photographer is Luis Holden, based in Norfolk - as it happens just a couple of miles from the venue. We love that his shots are so natural, and have total confidence that we will love our wedding pictures. A few weeks before the wedding we will have a meeting, suggest shots that we want, and a couple of days before he will go to Oxnead and make a storyboard of our shots, meaning that minimal time will be wasted on the day.
